A day in a coffee shop becomes a comic, charming, bitter-sweet journey through 25 years of psychotherapy.

Darnell Shacklebee, proprietor of Escape the Daily Grind, gets slammed one Saturday when there’s a psychotherapist convention in town. All of his former therapists pop in for coffee, triggering a trip down memory lane. The trip includes decades of therapy, family conflict, and misdiagnoses.

This unique film — a satire of psychotherapy and coffee shops — was shot in Salisbury and Charlotte, North Carolina. The comedy begins as Darnell opens the coffee shop one morning — and from there we see a layering of flashbacks into pscyotherapy and a lifetime of troubled relationships (roommates, girlfriends, parents, siblings, and therapists!)

Have you ever considered therapy? This is Darnell’s question to the world as he seeks relief in therapy from life’s ordinary problems: growing up, college, drugs, a wacky family, marriage, and parenthood. For Darnell, all’s well that ends well, thanks to advances in psychophamacology and brilliant comedy acting by Hank West — along with an outstanding ensemble cast. Coffee Therapy is a sweet, funny movie.

The 85 minute film features acoustic guitar by Tripp Edwards and awesome Dixieland jazz by The Firecracker Jazz Band.
